TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Janet Lemon M.A., B.A., B.Ed.
I love teaching because I love learning. I have spent as much time as a student as I have as a teacher.
My years of being a student have made me a better teacher because I understand HOW people learn and I have become an expert at helping students learn and apply techniques that will get them results.

My family has helped me be a better teacher. I grew up with a special needs sister who is developmentally delayed. I raised a son with ADHD. These experiences have shaped me into a patient, open person.

I have an extensive background in the performing arts as a dancer, actor, singer, improviser and stand-up comedian. I engage students in learning through introducing an element of fun, no matter their age. Humour is one of the most powerful methods of making information accessible and memorable.

I am comfortable employing traditional educational methods such as rote learning, however, I usually find an innovative, fun and relevant way for each student to learn information that requires repetition.
With every student I encourage critical thinking, problem solving and independent thought.

My overall goal is to create an atmosphere in which my students feel they are an active participant in their own learning process.
